Daniel Majer

Daniel Majer is an electronic musician and sound artist based in Vancouver, B.C. He has produced a diverse body of work that often takes the form of collaboration with visual artists and musicians, both across Canada and internationally. His work ranges from fronting an experimental rock group, multi-media installation, original scores for award winning short films, solo and collaborative laptop performances and classical forms of ensemble composition.  In 2016 he received a diploma in musical composition under the tutelage of Giorgio Magnanensi. An album of electronic compositions called “Intimacy Muscle” is expected to be released in the Summer of 2017, that will be supported by a European tour of the material.

In the Spring of 2016 he was commissioned by The Media Arts Committee to produce a piece using field recordings; in “Fluvial Pression” computer technology functions as a lens for observing sonic material from many different perspectives. Electronic compositions were blended via digital processing with an array of field recordings from outdoor environments and natural soundscapes.  The dynamic contour of the piece reacts to a silenced track of water running in a creek, resulting in the organic flowing and breathing quality that is apparent. The piece works to be free of entrenchment within any particular artistic aesthetic, more so to function as an investigation into what sort of a reciprocal relationship contemporary musical composition and field recordings of natural soundscapes could form.
