The Media Arts Committee (MAC), supported by CRES, is dedicated to serving, supporting, and building on the sound art and experimental audio community in ‘so called’ Canada, while centering the voices of BIPOC, 2SLGBTQQIA+, Disabled, Deaf/deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.
MAC is run by a small, dedicated team of artists and arts administrators on the stolen territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.
MAC Committee members who administer and curate the program are sound artists Edzi'u, Sara Gold, Leslie Ken Chu, and Anju Singh.
A note that the artist call is now closed. We will be reaching out to applicants soon.
This year's call asks artists to think beyond traditional song structure. How would a dance track sound if it used the rhythm of drums without the drums themselves? What does this sound like to you? How would you interpret a sound piece like this sonically?
Alternatively, how would you shape a sound piece to be free of the constraints of rhythm and timing, quantization, and kick drums altogether? Sound art can open the pathways to sound exploration; how would you embrace this opportunity?
