MAC is committed to public education as part of its mandate. As such, we offer a series of public workshops on sound art and media art related topics. The WORKING WITH SOUND series focuses on workshops, artist talks and sharing, training, and educational opportunities to expand discussions and interest in sound art in the local and broader community. The series is targetted to those being introduced to sound art all the way to advanced sound artists looking to collaborate or hone their skills.
The workshops in the series are between one and three hours long. They are participatory and focus on skill-building for participants. Soundwalks, soundscape awareness activities such as “ear-cleaning” exercises, and technical tutorials are examples of some workshop components. “Artist’s talks” are participatory and encourage discussion and workshopping between the artist and audience. These talks are an excellent way for the artist to share their experience but also expand their own understanding of the work they produce in the context of discussions with peers, listeners, and artists from other disciplines.
